Woah. I, like Neo, must have taken the red pill Morpheus offered when I clicked on the “+ New” but atop this WordPress blog site. ‘Cause now, I’m faced with a screen full of controls enough to fly a Space Shuttle (or the cool new touchscreen Crew Dragon they just took out for a spin out last month). Who knew blogging could be so complicated???
So, I’m new here. New to blogging this instant. New to UM-Dearborn last fall. New to Michigan six years ago. New to Earth … wait, maybe I can have some privacy in this public blog!!!
This cohort has left some fascinating thoughts in the blog so far. I just hope to be entertaining. In fact, I’m hoping my digital identity can help promote a cause that is near to me: participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Diverse participation. Inclusive participation. Equitable participation. Just participation. Respectful participation. Enthused participation!
I hope that the science fiction, engineering marvels, educational television, and the like that I will resurface (or dive into) inspire those beloved readers who actually read to the end of a blog post to join me in celebrating humanity’s STEM accomplishments together and embracing those challenges we have yet to slog through to better human life. And please, let’s hold off on the “Mr. Anderson”s before we even get started.
I love everything about this blog! Last year when I wrote my first #DigPINS blog (https://umd.digpins.org/week-1-posts/before-with-and-against-the-internet-legal-consciousness-and-our-digital-selves/) I wasn’t sure what kind of “digital voice” I might find. Sure, I had written many more formal academic pieces before, and I had dabbled with blogs during the PhD, but I ended up shying away from them because I just wasn’t sure how to balance academe with journaling, opinion and reflection. Your post has done just this–it’s entertaining, intriguing, and makes me want to hear more. I’m looking forward to the next one!
I had the same problem as Maya through grad school as I maintained a regular blog. Now, many years later, well, I still struggle with my various online voice(s), but I kinda care less. That said, I’m liking your voice, Chirstopher.
I realized I misspelled your name just after I hit “post.”
